Arthur F. “Bill, Slim, Broomy” Broomfield, Sr., 98, was born on April 29, 1917 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to John and Clemmie Broomfield. Arthur obeyed the gospel of Christ becoming a life-long member of Church of Christ. In 1942 at age 25, he enlisted in the United States Army/AirCorp, a segregated military station in Tuskegee Alabama. He met and married Dorothy Sutton and remained married for 57 years until her death in 2004. He and his wife settled in Columbus to raise their 4 children, Marvina, Denise, Carmen and Arthur Broomfield, Jr. He was a faithful member of Southfield Church of Christ until the Lord called him from labor to reward on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. He is preceded in death by parents, wife Dorothy (Sutton) Broomfield, siblings Leon, Elmer, Charles, Vivian, and Merlene Broomfield; daughter, Marvina L. Thomas. Survived by daughters, Denise L. Broomfield, Carmen L. Tubbs; son, Arthur F. (Tarji) Broomfield, Jr.; sisters, Dollie Chapman, Hazel Williams; brother-in-law, Sylvester (Barbara) Sutton; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and church family.
