Dorothy “Dot” (Pearce) Brown was born on September 9, 1927 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina to James and Lottie Pearce. In 1943, Dot relocated to Columbus, Ohio with her family; then, she graduated from East High School in 1945. Dot married the love of her life, Spencer Brown, on January 22, 1949. From this union three children were born: Joyce, Spencer II, and David. In addition to raising her three children, Dorothy was a mother to many within her community. All were welcome in her home, and she selflessly helped anyone in need. She was always the first to offer support, having a passion to see others succeed. She volunteered on the PTA board, voting polls, and neighborhood beautification board. Dot tirelessly worked behind the scenes in countless ways. Dorothy retired from Lazarus. As a licensed cosmetologist, Dot would often offer her services to family, friends and neighbors. She loved to cook and cooked with love. She was known for her delicious homemade sweet potato pies, ribs, ham and greens. Dorothy was also a true example of honoring her father and mother. She was devoted to them, and was always willing to care for her brothers and sisters. Dorothy had many achievements in her life and often declared that she had lived a blessed life. She was humble and thankful for all God gave her. We have all been blessed to know her and love her: a beautiful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Dot is preceded in death by her parents James and Lottie Pearce; Husband Spencer Brown; Siblings: Beula Samuels, Liz Mattison, Robert Pearce, James Pearce, Willie Pearce, Connell Pearce, Larry Pearce, Martha Jamar. She leaves to cherish her memories: Daughter Joyce (Effley Douglas) Brooks; Sons: Spencer II (Angela) David (Mary) Brown; Sister Gloria Pearce; Brother-in-Law Ernest Samuels; Sister-in-Law Pearlene Pearce; Grandchildren: Cyntoria (Christopher), Taijah, Taylor, Evan, Seth, Colin, Olivia, Taevion, Jared Trevor (Twana); Six great-grandchildren; God-Daughter Tracee Black; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
