Gary A. Wright, Sr.

Gary A. Wright, Sr., affectionately known to family and friends as “Ghee”, was born to Sterling Jr. and Betty (Montgomery) Wright in Columbus, Ohio, on April 29, 1951. Gary Sr. was a proud graduate from East High School in 1969. Gary Sr. was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Thailand. He was active duty from February 1971 to April 1974 when he received his honorable discharge. Gary Sr. was united in marriage to Pamela (Tucker) Wright on December 11, 1971. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Gary Jr. and TyKiah. He was not only a loving husband and father but a proud “Paw-Paw” to three beautiful granddaughters, Mikayla, Keeley and Maya. Gary Sr. was a retiree from Tenneco “PressWare”. He truly enjoyed retirement and loved to fish, exercise, walk, listen to music, tend to his garden, cook including making great bar-b-que, and hanging out with his cousins. His laughter was infectious! Every year, Gary Sr., looked forward to attending the Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest with his favorite cousins, aunts and uncles AND he brought his own ribs because he thought his were the best in town! Gary loved all of his family members and had a very special bond with his Aunts - Evelyn Doughty, Barbra Wright and Lynn Cunningham; Uncles - Jerry Wright and Russell Cunningham; and Special Cousins—Terry Holliman, Skip Brown, George Holliman, Robbie Keyes and Claudia Covington. It is no secret that Gary Sr. LOVED the CLEVELAND BROWNS!!! He raised his oldest granddaughter, Mikayla, to love them as well! From the time she could sit up on her paw-paw’s knee til now, Kayla has been watching “Da Browns” every Sunday!!! Thanks to their Paw-Paw, all of his granddaughter’s have an appreciation for sports. Gary Sr. departed this life on April 26, 2019, at Riverside Hospital. He is preceded in death by his Father, Sterling Jr.; Brothers - Kevin and Mitchell; Sister - Sharon; Special Cousin-Cheryl (Keyes) Saunders; Father-in-Law- J.T. Tucker; Mother-in-Law Carol (Bill) Lewis; and Sister-in-Law- Paula (Tucker) Pruitt. Gary Sr. leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Pamela, son- Gary Jr. (Teresa); daughter - TyKiah; grandchildren - Mikayla, Keeley and Maya; loving mother-Betty; brothers - Wesley and Tracy and best friend, Carnell (Edith) Stowers; special daughters—Selena (Joshua) Culpepper, Tselane (Richard) Thompson and LaKisha Rhodes along with a host of very special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
