Dr. Nathaniel William Bostic was called from labor to reward on July 18, 2017 at the age of 81. A lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio, he was an East High School alumnus and a founding member of “The Hearts” singing group. He was honorably discharged from his service with the United States Army and Governor Richard Celeste granted Nathaniel an expungement and full pardon for his prior criminal offenses. After earning his Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science from Franklin University, Nathaniel furthered his education by completing a Master of Science at Xavier University. In addition, he was licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel and received a Master of Theological Studies from Trinity Lutheran Seminary, before he was ultimately conferred with a Doctorate of Ministry from United Theological Seminary. He was employed as a Criminal Justice Planner for the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services, where his career initially began as a Counselor at T.C.Y./T.I.C.O. After retirement, Dr. Bostic dedicated ten years to serving as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Columbus State Community College. Over the years, through his professional endeavors and community outreach, Dr. Bostic strongly advocated for male juvenile offenders. He was particularly passionate about his role as a member of the Linden Area Commission and worked with other community leaders to address the multiple issues that affect Linden residents. He would often attend memorial services for young victims of gun violence where he could be found offering words of advice, wisdom, and encouragement. Nathaniel exercised often and was a skilled Bid Whist player. He spent a lot of time at Marion-Franklin Recreation Center walking and playing cards with his fellow retired friends. Known for his sharp sense of style, he could dress like no other! His charming personality, intelligence, laid back, no-nonsense approach made him an incredible father, son, brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed! He was preceded in death by his daughter Natalie Rae Bostic, mother Ida Will Scott, brother Reginald Bostic, and sister Brenda Scott. Remaining to cherish memories and carry on the legacy of Dr. Bostic are his twin daughters, Traci Rochelle Bostic and Staci Lynette Bostic; son Tobias Latham; grandson Isaiah Nathaniel Grice; sisters, Deloris (James) Polk, Elenor Bowers, Yvonne Corbin, and Mary Milner; his dear friend, former wife and mother of his daughters, Fay Victoria Bostic; and a host of other loving relatives, friends, and colleagues.
