Percy Washington

November 14, 1925 — January 1, 2018

Percy Washington Sr. was born on November 14,1925 in Selma ,Alabama. He was the fourth child,the oldest son born to the union of Clifton and Pernello Washington.Percy attended the Selma Public School System.He also attended College Hill Baptist Church and as a young man he helped create and sang in the families gospel group called "The Rising Star". Percy met and married Therline Thomas in 1948 and in 1951 they moved to Cleveland, Ohio. To this union 7 children were born. Percy worked for Farrow foundry until he relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1962. Percy was a hard worker, he was blessed to be able to help start one of the largest minority sub contracting companies in the state of Ohio, along with his brother Charles and cousin Eugene. The company was called "Washington Brothers Cement where Percy worked from 1975 until his retirement in 2000. Percy joined Rehoboth Temple in 1962 under the leadership of Bishop Hubert Spencer. Percy was saved and received the Holy Ghost in 1963 and was a true servant of the Lord.He served on a number of auxiliaries such as : the hospitality committee, Senior usher board, the brotherhood and the templaire choir. When it came to raising money for any of these auxiliaries everyone knew that Bro. Percy was going to win. Percy stayed a faithful member and servant for many years. He also served under the leadership of the late Bishop Kenneth L. Bligen and Apostle Bradford Berry until his medical condition would no longer allow him to serve. In 1983 Percy met the love of his life Annette( Desi) and in 1985 they made a life long promise and that promise was fulfilled through their marriage vows. To this union 1 son was born, Ryan and 1 son was gained in Courtney. Percy was truly blessed with a loving and devoted wife that has taken care of him diligently for 17 years of his debilitating disease. Percy will always be remembered for dressing sharp and wearing his Stacy Adams to match each suit , along with that million dollar smile. Percy is preceded in death by both of his parents ; Clifton and Pernello, his 1st born son;Percy jr. (P.L), two granddaughters ; Chrissy and Loushanna. Four sisters; Pearl,Florence,Maxi and Willie D. and one brother Clifton Washington jr. My legacy, memories and love I leave to my beautiful wife Desi , my 5 daughters ; Miltoria, Denise(Johnny ) , Gwendora/ToSweet, Christy, Corine/Co-Co, My 5 sons Arthur/Ba-bro,Edward/King, Courtney ( Christina ) , Ryan ( Lovely ), and foster son Charles(rocky)Moore.My 26 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grand children. I also leave to cherish my memories, my 3 sisters; Mable, Virginia, . Yvonne , 2 sister in laws Virginia Washington, Joann Alexander and my 2 brothers Charles ( Faye ) and Jerry and a host of nieces and nephews. A special thank you goes out to the caregivers who became a part of the Washington family over the years ; Jimmy Smith, Yolanda Murray, Pam Allen, Chevonne Mudrow, Angie Bivens and the Heritage Day Health Center. You have all played a major role in the quality of care that Percy has received over the years . We thank you and pray that you will always be blessed .
