Verna J. Spann

Verna Jean Spann, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 20, 2010. A 1948 graduate of East High School, Verna retired from Lucent Technologies (Western Electric) after 23 years of service. Faithful member of Second Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by father, Harvey H. Alston; mother, Marian T. Alston; step mother, Fannie Alston; husband, Lebanon M. Spann Jr.; sisters, Adelaide Bland and June Granger; adopted son, Sunny Ekanem and great grandchild, Madyson Jones. Survived by her four loving sons, Lebanon M. (Jacqueline) Spann III, Jeffrey S. (Deborah) Spann, David E. Spann and Stephen D. (Sandra) Spann; brother, Harvey H. (Toni) Alston Jr.; aunt, May Alston; close cousin, Shirley Reed; grandchildren Renee, Lebanon IV, Dorothy, Kai (Sarah), Shawn, Nakia, Ashton and Stephen; 7 great grandchildren which she loved dearly and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
