Adrienne Kay Weekes (neé Washington) was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Columbus, Oh in 1963 to go to college. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Franklin University with a degree in Business Administration while working full-time for the Franklin County Welfare Department. Adrienne continued working for the Franklin County Welfare Department until 2010 when she retired as Director of the North Center. Her first retirement lasted only four weeks and she took her services to Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority where she was a Quality Control Manager. Before and after her real retirement in 2011, Adrienne was actively invested in her community. She was active in her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; she regularly volunteered at the King Arts Complex; she was a founding member of the African-American Cancer Support Group; in addition, she donated generously to a variety of charities including the NAACP, the United Negro College Fund, and the American Cancer Society. Adrienne was also the keeper for the large, loving, and extended Mann family; she organized yearly family reunions and actively recorded their extensive genealogy. Adrienne was preceded in death by her father Owen O. Washington and Jessie Mann Washington. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jeanine Weekes Schroer and Robert Schroer; her ex-husband and friend, James Weekes; and a large and loving extended family. She was cherished by her friends, family, and community and will be dearly missed. Donations in Adrienne's honor should be directed to the United Negro College Fund or the American Cancer Society to continue her legacy of support.
