AGNES JANE LOFTON was born on Friday, October 7, 1960, in BluefieId, West Virginia. She was affectionately known as “Ms. Agnes” and as “Agnes Jane” by her family and friends. Agnes was educated in McDowell County Schools and graduated from Northfork High School in Northfork, West Virginia.
After moving to Ohio, Agnes met Mr. Terril Lofton. They were united in holy matrimony in April 1979. Agnes was a former employee of Nationwide Insurance Company and was a foster parent for ten years. In August 2017, Rhema Christian Center awarded her a Certificate of Completion of Ministerial Alliance.
Agnes was an avid reader, loved taking care of her houseplants, and working in her flower garden. Having inherited her grandmother’s green thumb, Agnes never met a plant she didn’t like and/or couldn’t bring back to life. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, and knitting for Agnes was very creative and crafty. Moreover, Agnes was a true “Handy Woman” who did all types of DIY projects, from installing flooring to building her own backyard shed.
Agnes loved spending time with her family. Her greatest joy, however, was time spent with her grandkids, taking them to movies, amusement parks, and even traveling with them on the Polar Express train ride. She loved spending many relaxing hours bonding with her granddaughter, Leah, while doing her hair.
Our beloved Agnes J. Lofton departed this life in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. She was sixty-two years of age. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Terril Lofton; her parents, John E. Hairston and Mattie E. Dillard Hairston; and her brothers, Edward Hairston and Caleb (“Randy” “Junebug’’) Hairston.
Left to mourn the passing of Agnes Jane are her loving daughter, Tyce Lofton, her daughter, Kennora Lofton; her son, Manuel Lofton; grandchildren, Leah Holley, Romaro Holley, Rasana Johnson, Bria Johnson, and Rassaun Johnson Jr. She also leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sisters, Carolyn Ellis and Linda Saunders; special nephew, Steven Younger; her Dillard cousins; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, along with many friends and coworkers.
Agnes was a loving, selfless, giving, nurturing, generous, warm, and compassionate person who always chose to put others first. She was always ready and willing to do whatever she could to help others. Ms. Agnes will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
