Alice Williams

October 19, 1952 — January 1, 2025

Minister Alice Elizabeth Williams was born in Columbus, Ohio. She was the eighth child of 11 children and the eldest serving daughter of the late Rev. Joseph and Mrs. Ida Mae Slappy. Alice was raised in a loving Christian home filled with the joy and laughter of her siblings. On

Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at the age of 72, Alice Elizabeth Williams went home to be with her Lord.

Alice graduated from East High School in 1970 and enjoyed singing in the gospel glee club, participating in the marching band as a majorette. She was, employed by the Columbus Urban League Head Start for over 50 years. She pursued her degree in Early Child Care Education. During this time, she had the opportunity to touch the lives of countless children and families. Her love for children was heartfelt. Alice would give her all to see that every child she met was taken care of. Not only the children but her love would overflow to many of their family members. In 2017, she was the first recipient to be nominated and awarded “Educator of the Year” from Action for Children in Columbus, Ohio, which was well deserved. Alice used every gift she had to the glory of God. She was a member of St. Matthew Fire Baptized Holiness

Church in Columbus, Ohio, where she served faithfully. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Director, organist, pianist, songstress, and a preacher of God’s Holy word.

She was appointed as the District Sunday School Superintendent of the Northeast Ohio District FBH Church, 3rd Episcopal Diocese. Alice had a calling on her life to preach the gospel. She received her Local Ministers license from the Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of The Americas and set on a journey to share the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ with everyone she met. Through her witness, many souls came to know the Lord.

In 1978, she met and married the love of her life Mr. Cecil Thomas Williams. Through this union, they were blessed with three beautiful children, Christopher Maurice, Cherilyn Marie, and Cevin Thomas Williams. She was a faithful wife and a devoted mother who followed Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.

Alice loved sports; her favorite football team was the Cleveland Browns. She played baseball for the Buyers All-Star softball team and traveled with the league to play tournaments throughout Ohio. She loved drawing and could fix just about anything. If it needed painted Aunt Alice would paint it, if it needed to be built, Grandma Alice would build it, if it needed to be drywalled, again Alice would get the job done. She loved working with her hands.

She was gifted to cook and loved cooking for her family and preparing meals for others. The Lord made room for her gift and you could find her homemade sweet potato pies on the shelf at the neighborhood grocery stores. Every gift she was given, she used it to the Glory of God! Alice was a loving Wife, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and a Friend to many.

In 2021, Alice became ill but God stepped in and granted her three more loving years to share with family and friends. When she was no longer able to communicate verbally, she continued to hold on to her testimony of being saved sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. On many occasions, when you would visit her in the nursing home, she would give the biggest smile and would mouth the words to the songs and her favorite scriptures letting us know that she was still on the Lord's side. Living to live again.

I Thessalonians 4:17 is one of Alice's favorite verses which moves us to action “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” Alice would stand in front of the church congregation and say “CAUGHT UP’! and the saints would jump to their feet giving thanks to God believing on that great and glorious day we would be caught up to meet Jesus in the air.
