Scouting was Doug's passion for 36 years. He received a number of awards for his leadership including the Silver Beaver, which is the highest honor a Boy Scouts of America Council can give to a volunteer, recognizing their exceptional service to Scouting. Each year Doug willing gave up one week of his vacation time to take his scouts to summer camp. He spent countless hours and weekends planning and taking the boys camping and on field trips. He was most excited when he took the boys white water rafting. He felt it was important for his inner city boys to experience the reward of being in nature. Doug turned out 34 Eagle Scouts in the 36 years of scouting, including three of his sons, Doug, Senaway and Joachim, his brother-in-law, Carl C. Fields, and his cousin, Phil Peaks. He had a great impact on a number of young men. His greatest joy was when they would come back and tell him how much Scouting impacted their lives. Doug was also fond of Mickey Mouse. Every three years he took his family to Disney World.

Preceded in death by his father, Matthew Jack Bailey, mother, Betty (Evans) Bailey, stepmother, Adele (Pryor) Bailey.
