Allease Flowers, age 81, died peacefully August 11, 2016. “Al” or “Leasey Boy” was born April 9, 1935 in Holly Grove, Arkansas, the son of Charlie Flowers and Zulene Johnson, both deceased. He and his three brothers – Cecil, Edward and Walathal (“Wally”) -- were raised in Holly Grove by their Aunt and Uncle, Ella Dee and Edward Ewans (both deceased). Allease was a hard-working man, devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest joy was to marry the love of his life “Essie” and to have a family. When his grandsons were born, he raised them with the same unconditional love and dedication as if they were his own kids. Daddy/Grandpa was a man of few words but his giving spirit touched so many. He loved animals, sports, airplanes, and a good western. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandsons play sports, whether it was attending Jordan’s basketball games or taking Justin to football practice. Regardless of the weather – he and Mom rarely missed one of “Sugar Lump’s” football games! Essie and Al were regulars at family reunions and the annual Holly Grove 4th of July Homecoming festivities. Al was a huge Cleveland Browns fan and often talked about “back in the day when the Browns were a powerhouse and won NFL championships.” Daddy, no one remembers those days! And let’s not forget his beloved Arkansas Razorbacks. Allease left Holly Grove in 1955 and moved to Columbus. He and Mom had a long distance courtship until she graduated from high school and they married on July 11, 1958. They had a beautiful union and he took excellent care of her during illness. He was retired from the City of Columbus, Division of Water after 30 years of service and ran his own residential water line repair business for another 23 years. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Easrean Flowers; brothers Cecil Brittman, Edward Flowers, Abner Flowers, William Flowers, and Leodis Flowers; sisters Charlene Atkins, Dorothy Sain and Bobbie Rich; and brother-in-law Weston Williams, Jr. He is survived by daughters Beatrice Flowers of Canal Winchester, Janice M. Flowers, Esq. of Columbus; grandchildren Jordan Flowers and Justin Akindele of Columbus; brothers Walathal Weems (L. Ophelia) of Columbus, Clarence Flowers (Vera) of Omaha, Nebraska, and Dr. Larry Sims (Kimberly Sims, Esq.) of Memphis, Tennessee; sisters Emma Jean Jackson of Holly Grove, Arkansas, Susie Sutton of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Grant (Nathaniel) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Earnestine Grant of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; sisters-in-law Jessie B Smith (Leroy) of Detroit, Michigan and Maxine Little (Howard) of Brentwood California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
