Alma Willette Walker

Alma Willette Walker was born on August 5th, in the year 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the youngest girl out of 10 siblings, of the late John and Willie Houston. She is survived by her siblings, Ella Rose Williams, Margaret Young, and Lamont Houston. She was preceded in death by her siblings Lillian Houston, James Houston, William Houston, Fatima Muhammad, Walter Houston, and Victoria Williams. Alma was joined in holy matrimony with Sammuel Carpenter. To that union, the Lord blessed Alma and Sam with three sons, Nathaniel, Bryant, and Mark. Later she united and formed a union with Cleo Walker. Alma was also the mother of Jennifer, Yashisha, Ashley, Romesha, Lamont, Nailah, Tyreese, Latera, Sunny, Andrea and a host of others. Alma also left several grandchildren, Khalid, Amir, Ramen, Nathaniel Jr., Yaree, Yakai, Briana, Jalen, Denika, Sheena and quite a few great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mom served and worked in many capacities over her lifetime, the most prospering and enriching being for Southwest Foster Parent Association as a President in Los Angeles, California for over 30 years. Through her years as a foster parent she “touched and changed the lives of many young people”. She did much traveling in order to share her experiences and knowledge with other people in order to give them a better understanding of the importance of fostering and adoption. She also received numerous awards for her dedicated service in the field of fostering and adoptive care. Also, Mom worked as a Nurse’s Assistant and received her credentials in nursing. The veteran caretaker will always be remembered for her caring and enormous concern for the welfare of all whose lives she encountered
