Alversa Doretha Holland

Alversa Doretha Holland, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 1, 2021. It was the end of a long and full life. Born in Harvey, West Virginia on December 4, 1929 to Frank and Viola Williams, she graduated from Dubois High School and West Virginia State College. She taught Business Education and French in the Columbus Public School System. During different periods of her life she worked actively in various organizations. Her service to the church rose to the regional level. Her much beloved sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, was of major importance to her throughout her life. She labored for the Franklin County Democratic Party as well as Native American groups. For her, service on the Board of the Directors of the Reynolds/Claytor Family Reunion Inc. was of major importance. Doretha is survived by three children, Betty Brantley of Sunrise FL, Donald Holland of Columbus, Cheryl Griffin (James) of Lake Forest, CA, two grandchildren, Regina Gossett (Calvin) of Gahanna, James R. Griffin of Anaheim, CA, three great grandchildren, Aiden Brailsford of Miramar, FL, Ava and Cole Gossett of Gahanna, sisters, Jean Smith of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Neal Williams (Melvin) of Roanoke, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by ex-husband D. Randolph Holland, siblings, Osa Callown, Wert Williams, John Williams, Cecil Williams, Walter Williams, Harold Williams, Clarence Williams and Marva Richardson. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 10, 2021 10:00 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1555 S. James Road preceded by viewing at 9:00. The service will be streamed and available on YouTube - Redeemer Lutheran Church Columbus. Memorial donations can be made to the Reynolds/Claytor Scholarship Fund.
