Amanda Hayes, 86, was born in Forkland, Alabama on February 1, 1929, to the late George (Buck) Hill and Julia Thompson Hill. She passed peacefully at The Manor at Whitehall on Friday, January 1, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie Hayes, Jr., one infant child John, and siblings, Roosevelt (Shag) Hendricks, Perry (Sweet) Hill, Barbara Jean Hill and Clara Hill. She received her formal education in the Forkland, Alabama public school system. At a young age, Amanda accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at New Friendship Baptist Church in Forkland, Alabama. Upon marriage to Jimmie “Toosie” Hayes, Jr. on May 6, 1944, she relocated to Columbus, Ohio where she later joined Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and worked in the Nurses Corps. as a faithful chartered member. Amanda was an excellent cook who loved cooking for her family and friends. She dedicated her life to raising her eight children as a homemaker, by providing support, guidance and much love to them as well as her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was taking trips and outings with her family. She was a loving and compassionate person. Amanda enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved her God, her family and friends. Amanda leaves to cherish her memory, five sons, Jimmy G. (Barbara) Hayes, Charles E. (Laura) Hayes, Tony (Helen) Hayes, Dennis (Eva) Hayes, and Henry P. (Monique) Hayes; three daughters, Katherine J. Hayes, Cindy A. Hayes, and Regina (Brian) Hayes; eighteen grandchildren, and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Mary McClelland, Nathaniel Hill of Columbus, Ohio, Fairy Gordon, Arbie H. Thompson, Charles Hill, Maggie Hardy, Ross Johnson of Eutaw, Alabama, Jennie Mims of Prattsville, Alabama, Molly Beverly of Greensboro, Alabama, Willie B. Hill of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and George (Lucy) Weatherspoon of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
