“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” -Ecclesiastes 3:1 Mrs. Anna Mary Hawkins the daughter of the late Dora Cox of Lancaster Ohio and Joshua Cox of Columbus Ohio was born on January 5, 1921 in Lancaster Ohio. Anna accepted Christ at an early age at the Allen Chapel, AME Church in Lancaster, Ohio. Her Heavenly father called her home to rest on December 10, 2018 at the Hospice of Hamilton, Hamilton OH. Anna receive her formal education in the Fairfield County School system graduating from the Lancaster High School System in 1939. In addition to being an excellent student, Anna was an accomplished athlete lettering on the school girls track team and basketball team. After high school Anna held a variety of jobs in Lancaster, OH prior to becoming an Army wife. Anna entered into Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Charles E. Hawkins, on January 22, 1942. This union was made complete with the birth of a son, Charles Dudley Hawkins and a daughter, Annalisa (Hawkins) Freeman. Anna accompanied her husband to many overseas and stateside assignments during his military career to include France, Germany Ft. Ord, Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Sheridan and others. Anna and Charles retired from the Army in 1962 and moved to Columbus, OH and joined Shiloh Baptist Church. Anna was initially a homemaker until she decided to return to the work force. She worked for the Columbus Public School System for many years as a food service worker and a special needs coordinator until her retirement in 1984. In retirement she developed her next love, which was the following of Ohio State University sports. During football season she could be counted on to be decked out in her OSU attire with Brutus by her side rooting the Buckeyes on. During basketball season the same enthusiasm would happen. People knew not to call her when her Buckeyes were playing. Special thanks are extended to Lisa and Gregory Freeman and family who lovingly and diligently have cared for Anna for the last 3 ½ years. During Anna’s declining health the Freeman Family would always say you must love one another and they truly showed “Agape Love” to Anna (Ephesians 5:1-2). May God bless Each of You! Anna leaves to mourn her a son, Charles Dudley Hawkins (Marla), of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Annalisa (Hawkins) Freeman (Gregory) of Fairfield Township OH, five grandchildren, Wallace J Daniels (Arlene), Omar R. Daniels, Charles David Hawkins, of Alexandria, VA; Brian P. Freeman (Jackia), of Fairfield, OH, Alana M. Freeman of Cincinnati; three great-great grandchildren Nokomis, Micco and Aiyana Daniels; nephews, Arthur Gooden (Kathy) of Columbus OH; Quentin Hawkins (Nancy) of New York, Michael Hawkins (Patrice); niece Judine Somerville of Mount Pocono PA, and a host friends to include Andrea and Curt Adams, Gary Austin, Ms. Carrier Jetter, Mrs. Francis Rust, Mrs. Wanda Penn and others.
