Annette G. McKinney was born November 13, 1937 to Walter Garnes and Estella Boyles Garnes in Polan, Georgia. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where she completed her formal education in the public school system. Annette retired from a career with the federal government after twenty-five years of exemplary service at the Defense Construction Supply Center (DCSC) in Columbus. On December 30, 2016, at the age of 79, Annette passed away while at Sunrise of Gahanna Care Center. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thompson McKinney, and three brothers, Carl, Donald, and David Garnes. Those who remain to cherish memories of Annette include her daughters, Teresa (Nathaniel) Gaines and Linda (Ronald) Kelley, both of Columbus, Ohio; sons, Michael (Sharon) McKinney of Atlanta, Georgia, and Stefan (Charlene) McKinney of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Barbara (Peter) Lowry and Cathy Garnes, both of California; six grandchildren, Whitney Kelley, Preston Kelley, Quincy Lewis, Nathaniel Gaines, III, Ishmael McKinney, and Anai McKinney; two great grandchildren, Teresza Lewis and Quizhon Lewis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
