Annettia Commons, daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Commons Sr. and Susie Mae Commons, was born on September 19, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama. She peacefully entered eternal rest on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 76.
Annettia was a proud graduate of George Washington Carver High School in Birmingham, Alabama. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio, she earned a certification in Dietary and began her career at The Ohio State University Hospital. Throughout her distinguished 30 year career, she was promoted to Dietary Clerk, a position she held until her well-deserved retirement. Even after retirement, Annettia remained actively engaged , contributing to the creation of the semi-annual OSU Retirees luncheon.
Annettia’s deep faith in Christ began at an early age when she was baptized at the Greater New Antioch Baptist Church in Birmingham. After moving to Ohio, she joined Mt.Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend S.R. Doughty Sr., where she faithfully served in the Nurses Corps since 1977. Annettia was also an active member of the church community, serving as a Leader of the Girl Scouts and participating in the Mt. Hermon Bowling League. Her commitment to service extended beyond the church, as she was an engaged member of the Eastern Star Love Thy Neighbor group
Annettia ‘s life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community. She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew jackson Commons Sr.; her sister, Emma Fultz; and her brothers, Andrew Jackson Jr., Lewis, and Terry Commons. She leaves behind cherished memories for her loving mother, Susie Commons; sisters, Julia Allen and Bertha Dorsey; brothers, John, Jerry, and Ed (Jackie) Commons; along with a host of nieces . nephews, cousins, and friends.
Annettia will be deeply missed by all who know her, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of being part of her life.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Your earthly duties are complete. It is time for you to come on home to Glory and live in your Heavenly mansion.”
Visitation will be held on January 30th, 2025 from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with a Funeral Service immediately following at Mount Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, 2283 Sunbury Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219. Burial will process to Glen Rest Memorial Estate, Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
