Arthur L. Banks called home to eternal rest with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 2, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Banks, Sr., and Gladys L. (Maye); sisters Adele and Ethel and brothers, Harvey and Johnnie. He was born March 16, 1947, to Rufus and Gladys Banks in Americus, Georgia. Sonny attended Sumpter High School; and was a member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Junior Deacon. In 1965 he moved to Columbus, Ohio. He later met and married Susan Brown on October 9, 1971, and they raised 3 children together. He retired from Abbott (Ross) Labs in 2002 with 30 years of service. Sonny and Susan joined Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in 1999, were he served as an usher until his health prevented his participation. He also held the position of Parliamentarian for the Argyle Park Civic Association. He also loved watching college and professional basketball and football especially the Dallas Cowboys. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 43 years, Susan; and children, Joye (Jay) Saunders, Eric and Tanya, all of Columbus, Ohio. He also leaves to mourn his passing sisters, Christene Banks and Jewell Little, both of Columbus, Ohio; great aunts, Leira Pace, of Columbus, Ohio and Eloise Reese, of Albany, Georgia; special sister, Minister Diane (Eddie) Powell of Richland, Georgia; brother-in-law, James (Sherrie) Brown of Streetsboro, Ohio; sisters-in-laws, Judith Lymor, of Columbus, Ohio and Deborah (Raymond) Crittenden, of Fairfax, Virginia. He is survived by his 6 loving grandchildren, Tyrell Saunders, Eric Banks, Jr., Earnest Banks, Karmen Banks, Trey Saunders and Kayla Banks; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
