Proceeded in death by Husband, Otis Washington, sisters Shirley Grady, Priscilla Joyce and Holly Joyce. Mother, Mable Foye Joyce Swayne and Father, Walter Joyce, Sr. Surviving relatives, Daughters: Jeana Deletra and Jill Washington. Brothers: Robert Joyce (Gloria), Jackie Joyce, Walter Joyce, Jr. (Chris) Sisters: Brenda Jordan, Darlene Joyce, And Angela Joyce. Great Aunt Marva Harris. Extended family: Brothers-In-Law, George Washington (Ruth), Eddie Washington (Eleanor), James L. Washington (Wanda), Sisters-in-law, Edna Riley, Mary Dobbins, Bert Dobbins, Emma Ware, Glenda Allen and Martha Weaver. Nieces Gloria Joyce and Christine Joyce. Nephews: Jack Joyce, Darrell Joyce. God Daughter, Renita Joyce. Many great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends. Born April 18, 1940 to Mable Foye and Walter Joyce in a small coal mining town of Thorpe, West Virginia. Berthelia earned the affectionate nickname “Pig” after her father caught her stuffing blue grapes into her cheeks and capturing the moment by saying “…Get a picture of my little pig…” She went to elementary, junior high in Thorpe, West Virginia. Berthelia graduated from Gary District High School in 1958. After graduating Berthelia lived and worked in Washington, D.C. before moving to Columbus, Ohio to be with her sister. Upon arriving to Columbus, she met and married Otis Washington. Berthelia lived in Columbus, Ohio over 50 years . Berthelia worked at Whitecross Hospital and Riverside as a Nurse’s Assistant before becoming a homemaker and having her first child. Berthelia and her husband shared a love of cars which became a lifetime hobby and business. Berthelia worked side by side providing love and support to her husband for 39 years.
