The Hand of God prevailed in the early hour of the morning on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, when death’s angel embraced the waiting spirit of Bessie James White. She was born on July 13, 1918 and was 94 years of age at the time of her passing. Bessie was the only child of Eva Cook and Floyd James, of Pine Hill, Alabama. She met and married Spencer White Jr. in Yellow Bluff, Alabama. Two years later, they moved to Mobile, Alabama where they were blessed with six children; three of which preceded her in death, Rosie Lee, Johnny and Albert, who were all of Columbus, Ohio where Bessie and her family had moved to in 1963. She leaves in mourning, her other three children Joe White, Floyd White and Annie Easley; seven grandchildren; 19 great grand children and 14 great great grandchildren. Bessie was a devoted and loving housewife and a very caring mother. She loved cooking and baking. She brought her children up in church, teaching them about the love of God. Before Bessie’s health began to fail, she would walk every Sunday morning from 17th and Main Streets to the Love Zion Church on Madison and Auburn near Franklin Park. She joined Love Zion on September 29, 1963 and remained a very devoted member.
