Betty Lou Woodward, age 84, of Columbus, passed away on July 23, 2015. She was born on April 21, 1931. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Woodward; mother, Eleanor (Lester) Borchert; father, Charles Cooper; sisters, Mary Taft, Joan Crosswhite and Peggy Coleman; and aunt, Violet Dalton. Betty is survived by her children, Thomas Williams, Allen Williams, Rosemary Valentine, Kathy Williams, Pauline Lindsay and Susan Pritchett; loving grandchildren, Michael Williams, Marleen Williams, Christine (Chris) Johnson, Marvin Williams, Kyra Kirkling, Donald Lindsay, Ish Lindsay and William Pritchett IV; loving great-grandchildren, Ca-Mya, Camar and Kamela Poindexter, Nevaeh Williams, Micha and Noah Williams, Carter and Cadence Johnson; sister, Carol (Robert) Clark; brother, Jacob Gilmore; dear friend, Lorice Williams and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Betty was born in Springfield, Ohio. She was hearing impaired and at the age of 5 she entered into Springfield Clark County Children’s Home. She left at the age of 18 and moved to Yellow Springs, Ohio. While in Yellow Springs, Betty worked at Ye Old Trail Tavern until she met and married Charles Williams. Later she moved to Columbus in 1959. Betty was a dedicated retired employee of Chemical Abstract Services. She also was a beautician in her earlier years. She was a dedicated choir member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of the Deaf and attended the Annual Deaf Festivities at Columbus Colony. She was a former member of Rehoboth Temple Church of Christ, joining in 1974. Betty loved her family dearly and spending time together. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and animals. She never met a stranger and if she met you, she loved you. As a deaf woman Betty demonstrated strength and overcame major obstacles. She was an influential Matriarch to her family and will be deeply missed. Funeral Service will begin at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Rehoboth Temple Church of Christ, 1111 E. Long Street where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Apostle Bradford Berry, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street.
