Beverly Ann Thompson

June 7, 1943 — April 30, 2018

Beverly Ann Owens Thompson, age 74, passed away suddenly at home on April 30, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Helen Owens, sister Wilma Jean Owens, nephew Billy Anderson, grandson David Daniel Thompson, IV, and her loving husband of 43 years, David D. Thompson, Jr. Beverly had a strong faith and believed in a loving and gracious God. She counted on His strength to give care to many people for over a decade of her life. She would always give of herself with her life, time, and anything she had, never looking to be paid back. She was a woman of good character and a big heart. She would always greet you with a smile, a hug, and ask how things were going. Beverly was born June 7, 1943 in Lima, Ohio. She was active in her church, St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church, with her mother Helen and sister Wilma. She sang and played piano in the St. Paul AME choir. Beverly graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1961. During her high school years, she and four friends started a singing group called The Willows (a combination of their names, Williams and Owens). The group consisted of Beverly and her sister Wilma, along with Casandra, Josephine, and Nancy Williams. The group would spend Friday evening rehearsing after school and would sing at local FOP lodges and the Elks Club. Beverly played piano for the group and was their motivator. After high school, Beverly attended THE Ohio State University where she worked towards her Bachelor of Arts degree. Beverly was hired by Ohio Bell Phone Company and quickly became a training manager. Her job took her to many cities around the country, a task which she enjoyed. Beverly served thirty years with Ohio Bell before retiring. After retiring, she worked with Star Bank, H&R Block as a tax preparer, Columbus First Link, and finally retiring for a second time with the Mid-Ohio Food Bank as a volunteer coordinator. Beverly deeply loved her family and is survived by her son, Bryan (Stacey) Thompson; special sister in-law Ona L. Toles; stepchildren, Deborah Bailey and David Thompson, III; grandsons, Corey Thompson, Bryce Bailey, Holden Price, Ojani Thompson, and Hasaan Thompson; granddaughter Nina Thompson; nephew Michael Owens; niece Adena C. Toles; and a host of cousins and friends. Beverly will be missed also by five special friends, Betty Williams, Casandra Bushner, Nancy Fleming, Josephine Marchant, and Svella Lewis.
