Boyce Leland Box, age 68, of Columbus, passed away on Monday, April 25, 2016. He was born on January 1, 1948 in Welch, WV and grew up in Kimball, WV. He graduated from Kimball High School and studied at Columbus State. A veteran of the United States Army, Boyce served two tours during the Vietnam War. Boyce belonged to United Coal Workers in West Virginia; State of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections as an officer. He later became a Lieutenant and Certified Fire Arms Instructor. He was a long time member of Mt. Vernon Avenue Baptist Church. Boyce was a former foster parent as family was important to him. He loved to spend time with his great-grandbabies, granddaughters, his daughter “Toots” and his brother. He enjoyed jazz music, motorcycles, old movies, orange soda, eating bananas and oranges. He is survived by his loving daughter, Letitia Broadnax; granddaughters, Leslie (fiancé, Dearl Wyche) Broadnax and Stacey Broadnax; great-grandchildren, Julius Cherry and Tyasia Preston; brother, Carl Box; and special friends, Shelia Payne and Johnny Hightower; and a host of nieces and nephews. Boyce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly Box; and mother, Naomi Box-Robinson. Celebration of life service will begin at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Unity Baptist Church, 1358 Mt. Vernon Ave., where family will receive friends from 11 AM until time of service.
