Brenda (Mickerson) Senter was born June 11, 1952 in Baltimore, Maryland and transitioned to Heaven on September 17, 2021. Brenda spent her early childhood in the Derita neighborhood in Charlotte, NC. During her preadolescence through early adulthood, she lived in Brooklyn and Queens New York. At age 16, Brenda participated in Job Corps Vocational program in Texas. She later earned her Diploma of Cosmetology from Kings University of Cosmetology in Columbus, GA. She also became a Certified Sous Chef with Callaway Resorts & Gardens in Pine Mountain, GA. Brenda enjoyed listening to R&B oldies, shopping, going out to eat, but also found comfort in being at home. She liked growing plants and developed a green thumb like her mother. Brenda was diagnosed with Lupus in her early thirties and battled the disease along with other illnesses for many years. Despite her medical issues she remained strong. She attended Meredith Temple C.O.G.I.C. for many years and served as an usher. Brenda had a heart for people and giving. In her community you could often find her sitting on her front porch or taking walks to socialize with neighbors. She loved attending family gatherings and gift giving. Brenda enjoyed phone calls with family and friends to chat, check in, connect, and provide an encouraging word if needed. Some of her famous sayings included “Ain’t no shame in my game” “Jesus loves you and so do I” and “Kiss Kiss”. Brenda was predeceased by her father, Samuel Mickerson; mother, Wilma M. Thornton; stepfather, Samuel Thornton; husband, Marvin Senter; and sisters, Patricia (Vernon) Roundtree, Luvenia (William) Bell, and Pamela (Eddie) Hall. Brenda leaves to cherish her memory stepdaughters, Valarie Wims, Kendra (Kevin) Williams; step-grandchildren of Columbus, OH and Fort Wayne, IN; brothers, Samuel Mickerson (passed on 9/26/21), Jerry (Gale) Thornton of Columbus, OH, and Mark Thornton of Charlotte, NC; sister, Rebecca Thornton of Columbus, OH; along with a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
