On April 14, 2011, Brunette Burmah Macklin passed away at the age of 85. Brunette was the youngest of the five children born to the late Ludaris and Maude Robinson Burmah. A native of New Orleans, LA, she was the divorced wife of the late Wilbur A. Macklin, and the mother of two sons, Arcenaux B. Macklin and Alvin B. Macklin. She was a member of Crown of Life Lutheran Church in New Orleans and following the devastation by Hurricane Katrina she relocated to Columbus, Ohio and was accepted into membership at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, October 15, 2006. Brunette graduated from McDonough #35 high school, and attended Dillard and Southern Universities, receiving an MSW in Policy and Administration from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). She received Certification in Aging Studies (Gerontology and Geriatrics) combined from the University of Kentucky (Lexington) and North Texas State (Denton) and numerous other allied academic and in-service courses. She was an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Grambling State University, a member of the pupil appraisal assessment team of Jackson Parish, LA and a psychiatric social worker at The Veteran Memorial Medical Center of New Orleans. After retirement she pursued an interest in creative writing. Unsuccessful as a novelist, she achieved success as a short story writer and was first published at age seventy. Brunette, adventurous with intense convictions, lived a life full of challenges that she faced with a strong faith, determination and the moxie necessary to achieve success for herself and her sons. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by son, Alvin; brothers, Donald and Lloyd Burmah; and sister, Dorothy Burmah Stokes. She leaves to cherish loving memories of her, a son, Arcenaux (Deborah), brother, Norman (Norma) Burmah, grandchildren, Janvincent (Dion) Macklin, Azure Macklin, Octavia (Richard) Macklin-Taylor and Aziza Macklin; step¬grandchildren, Michael (April) Macklin and Charlotte (James) Anderson; niece, Joyce Burmah (Howard) Desalle; five great-grand children, several great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
