Capers Bryant Jr

April 21, 1932 — November 22, 2014

Deacon Capers Bryant, Jr., was born to Capers and Lizzie Bryant on April 21, 1932 in Chester County, South Carolina. He is predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Willie Davis, Lucious and Johnny. Deacon Capers and Mamie moved their family to Ohio from South Carolina by way of Detroit, Michigan in the early 1960’s, and after 19 years of marriage, Mamie went home to be with the Lord leaving their three children to be cared for and nurtured by their father. Deacon Capers was saved not long after moving to Ohio and became a member of Rehoboth Temple Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He remained an active member of Rehoboth for over 55 years, until death. He loved his church family, the organization of the Churches Of Our Lord Jesus Christ and served in several capacities throughout his tenure of membership which included: Deacon for over 50 years, Chairman of Trustee Board, Sunday School teacher for the Junior Boys for over 30 years, served as a leader of the Transportation Ministry, member of the Templeaire Choir, Brotherhood Choir and Radio Choir, he was a Street Ministry worker, and served as Corresponding Secretary and Recording Secretary in the International Union of Deacons. He was also a long-time supporter of the Vacation Bible School, and the Girl and Boy Scouts. Given the opportunity to find another love, Deacon Capers married Nadine Belcher in 1976 and they remained married for over 38 years, until his death. He loved his wife and family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren brought a smile to his face and to his soul that was indescribable. He was always happy to hear from his children and loved their visits. Deacon Caper’s career path included his working for Conrail from 1967 until his retirement in 2006. After his retirement, he went on to receive his real estate license and sold homes until 2009. He then began to volunteer at the Chalmers P. Wylie Ambulatory Care Center, Division of the Veterans Administration where he served faithfully and relentlessly for 3 years until his health began to decline. Capers served as a Corporal in the U. S. Army and in the Korean War. He was a proud veteran and loved to let you know. One of the most memorable stories still being told at the VA is that he always introduced himself by saying that his name was Capers with a “C”. (Those from the VA will better understand that.) Deacon Capers was passionate about higher learning and always attended some type of class securing certificates in multiple areas. He was health conscience which inspired him to open one of the first nutritional smoothie “juice bars” in the athletic facilities in the Columbus area and at the Fresh Market. Deacon Bryant leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Nadine, their children, Capers Boyd Bryant of Hillside, NJ, Tayloria Lanise Stokes (Robert) of Richmond, VA, Arlisa Belcher of Columbus (who assisted as his care giver), Crystal Lynn Copeland (Anthony), of Tampa, FL, and Terica Lynn Talbert (Alonzo) of Greenville, SC, four grandchildren, Dallas, Ashley, Alexis and Blair, 7 great grandchildren, a cherished and loving sister, Eva Nell Bailey, several supportive nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and family members at large.
