Cardinal Darius Harriston passed Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Grant Medical Center. He was 81 years old and was born in Winston Salem, North Carolina, the only child of Marshall and Vascelia Harriston. Most of his adult years were spent in Columbus, Ohio after his marriage to Ruth Martin in 1960. He was employed at Rockwell .International as an engineer in the Missile Division for nineteen years. After leaving Rockwell, he joined his wife in the operation of Corporate Services of Ohio, Inc.. for twenty years. He was united with Spencer Memorial Christian Church in Winston Salem, at an early age. He was preceded in death by mother, Vascelia Spencer Barber; step father, Richard Barber; uncles, Clifton Spencer and Roy Spencer; sister-in-law, Alyce Martin; brother-in-law, John E. Martin; and mother-in-law, Harriet L. Martin; and nephew, Colonel George A. Martin, M.D. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of fifty-four years, Ruth Martin Harriston; sister, Carol Alexander; nephews, J. C. Martin, Craig Sunny Martin; niece, Clarissa Clark; great nephews and nieces, Keith Noble (Shavonda); Alfred J. Hill, Jr. (Jasmine); Travis Clark, Jr.; Justyn C. Martin; Cardinal Jerome Alexander; Alisha Martin; Vestula Wilson; Gemini Martin; dear friends, Paula Gray and Gillian Martin; cousin, Edward M. Lewis and many other friends and cousins.
