Carl Hearn was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 22, 1931. He attended Columbus Public Schools. Carl was employed by Westinghouse and later became self-employed as a carpet installer. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Carl loved to work (and play too)! He installed carpet in new and existing homes for over 40 years in Columbus and surrounding cities in Ohio. Upon his visits to New Jersey and New York, he installed carpet in the homes of his close friends and family also. Carl also loved and cared for his family. He loved his sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl had a love for “clean” cars and passed his love of cars to his sons. Any day of the week, you could find them washing their cars, by-hand! He would frequently have his daughters hang out with him when installing carpet and riding around the city visiting friends and family. He cooked for his family often; especially during the holidays. He cooked for his grandsons frequently to the point where they would want to stay and eat with their grandpa instead of eating what their mother had cooked! There is a special person that always stood by Carl’s side–cousin Richard “Padre” J. English, III! Called Rick or Padre most of the time by Carl, he and Carl were inseparable when they were in the same city. Rick in New Jersey and Carl in Ohio, they would always find a way travel to see each other hang out. They would visit each other at least 2-3 times per year and would talk on the phone to each other at least once a week – best buds forever (BBF)! Special thanks to Mt. Carmel East Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital and Mayfair Village for the professional and loving care given to our father, grandfather and great grandfather. Our heartfelt thanks is extended to the Mayfair Village nurses and nurse aides who ensured that his transition was respectful and peaceful. We could not have endured this time period without the consistent prayers and presence of our pastors, Charles Wilson, Timothy Carpenter, Keith Minier and our friends and family. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Hearn and Carrie Mathews Hearn, brother Harry Williamson, sister Arletta McGill and baby daughter, Kimberly Hearn. Left to mourn his passing: his sons, Carl J. (Terri) Hearn, Darrin Hearn; daughters, Pamela (Brady) Burton, Nolita Hubbard; grandchildren, Tegan Hearn, Derrell Sutton, Jerquan Riddick, Dale Hubbard III, DeAunte’ Hubbard, Te’rron and Te’lin Howell, Ebani, Aramis Estonia Mosby; great-grandsons Christopher Hearn, Khiryn Kanoa McNeal, Aaris Mason Mosby and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
