Carolyn Ruth Gibson

December 10, 1944 — March 26, 2013

Carolyn Ruth Gibson was born in Columbus, Ohio on December 10, 1944 to Leon and Wetona Gibson. She graduated from West High School and received an Associate Degree from MATA College. She left her beloved Columbus, Ohio to live and spread her wings in New York on Long Island where she worked for E.J. Korvette Furniture, and later at the New York Telephone Company in Nassau County, New York. She eventually returned to Columbus where she worked for both The City of Columbus and The State of Ohio in various agencies and departments. Carol gave her life to the Lord in 1986, faithfully committed to Broad Street Presbyterian Church, attending services when her health allowed and remaining active in any way she could. Writing was her passion and her gift, resulting in many written works, the publication of two books and many interesting and thought-provoking blogs, sharing her views on the state of her beloved Columbus, the nation and the world. Carol had an adventurous streak which she satisfied through her love of travel, grasping and delighting in new experiences during her youth. The family lost but God gained a new angel when Carol went peacefully into the arms of our Lord on March 26, 2013, due to complications from Multiple Sclerosis which resulted in a terminal stage of cancer. A remarkable woman, Carol was devoted to her siblings, doting love on them, their children and grandchildren. And despite her terminal status, Carol always remained upbeat, positive and faithful - a positive role model to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Preceding Carol in death and welcoming her into heaven are her mother Wetona Gibson Dawkins, father Leon Gibson, brother Floyd Gibson, and her beloved parental-father Edward Dawkins. Left to cherish loving memories of Carol are her siblings, Norman (Barbara) Gibson, Raymond (Joyce) Gibson, Cynthia Yvette Turner, Chris (JoAnna) Dawkins of San Antonio, Texas, and Hamadi Dawkins-Rose. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, dear friends, Beverly Johnson and Nodine Miller, and many other relatives, friends and caretakers who will forever keep her in a special place in their hearts. Home Going Services will take place at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Broad Street Presbyterian Church with a Soiree to follow. Associate Pastor Ann Palmerton will preside. Arrangements have been entrusted to Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service. Carol had a giving, kind and loving soul, and despite her disability, was always willing to assist others in any way she could. To continue her legacy, the family request gifts and donations be made in the name of Carol Gibson to Kobacker House of Columbus, Ohio, in lieu of flowers. The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all those who have kept Carol in their thoughts and prayers, and the many individuals and organizations who assisted and helped Carol over the years during her times of illness, with a special and loving thank you to Danita (Dee) Burris, John McCambridge and the entire staff at Kobacker House.
