Carolyn Williams

Carolyn Y. Williams was born in Beckley, West Virginia, on Sunday, November 2, 1947. She was the daughter of Telford and Lillie Belle (Tenson) Johnson. Carolyn worked for the State of Ohio for 38 years and retired from the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. She was the first African American female to head up the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles as Registrar. In her retirement years, she worked as a Supervisor for Nationwide Arena as a Concierge for Greater Columbus Convention Center; as a Certified Tourism Ambassador for Experience Columbus; and as ticket taker for the Columbus Clippers. She also was very involved with her church, Flintridge Community Church, and her alma mater, Franklin University. Blessed with 74 years of life, our beloved Carolyn Y. Williams was called from labor to eternal rest on Friday, November 19, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents, Telford and Lillie Belle; grandparents, Elbert and Mary Tenson and James and Carrie Johnson; brothers, Teddy Jerome Johnson, Sr. and William Johnson; niece, Katina Johnson; nephew, Teddy Jerome Johnson Jr.; uncles, Rev. Willie Hillman, Elbert Tenson Jr., Joseph Tenson, and Johnny Gregory; aunts, Aileen Tenson, Joyce Tenson, Louella Underwood, and Gertrude Scales. Loving memories are cherished by her son, Charles W. Williams Jr.; sister, Latosha Johnson Waters; aunt, Gwendolyn Gregory; special niece, Ambreana Johnson of Atlanta; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends; including special friends, Pastor Rodney and Maggie Richberg and their children, Tamekka and Rodney, Jr.
