Catherine Ella Simpson was born in Wytheville, Virginia on April 4th, 1929. She departed this life on Saturday, December 11th, 2021. She was 92 years of age. Catherine attended the Wytheville City Schools. Prior to moving to Columbus she also lived in New York and Cleveland. She moved to Columbus in 1955. She married Bert Simpson, September 17, 1955. As a result of this union, daughter Bonnie was born, thus joining her siblings James and Betty. She was a faithful member of New Salem for over 50+ years. She was so honored to be a part of the ceremony acknowledging the 'Original 60' of the Champion Ave. New Salem members who ushered Pastor Troy into his ministry of New Salem. Those who knew Catherine know that she loved fashion, hair and make-up. When you saw her at church you saw a quiet diva sitting in her usual spot near the rear of the church with her cronies. Catherine also loved her Soaps. She watched them faithfully. If you called her between 12:30 and 2:00 she might answer the phone. If she did answer, she would certainly rush you off. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Irene Jenkins, husband Bert Simpson, seven siblings and four grandchildren, children Bonnie, Betty and James. She leaves to cherish her memory grandsons Brian {Antionette} Wofford and Shawn {Jamie} Wofford, Spiritual daughter Shirley Goins-McGee, daughter-in-law Ella Brown, sister-in-laws Dolly Jenkins and Lula Simpson, great-grandchildren Shatuan Martin, Darnel Miskel, Jr., Daveon Miskel, Tre' and Kahlil Wofford, Torrey Wofford and Audrey Miskel. Special thanks to Gregory Wofford and New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. We offer an extra special thank you to Pastor Keith A. Troy.
