Cecil J. Jones

Cecil J. Jones, age 70 of Lewis Center, Ohio, was born November 27, 1951 in Colquitte, Georgia, to the late Cecil Jones and Ruby L. (Wells) Jones. He was the fourth of eight children. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his brother David Jones, sister Rosemary Fambro, and brother Melvin Jones. He is survived by his wife Dr. Triphinia Jones, siblings Charles L. (Cecilia) Jones, George G. Jones III, George D. (Anita) Sturdivant and Sonja L. Sturdivant: a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Born in Georgia and living a short time in Chicago, Illinois, Cecil spent most of his childhood growing up in Dayton, Ohio with immediate and extended family.

He attended Roosevelt High School in Dayton, Ohio where he was an exemplary student and was well rounded- playing organized basketball, football, tennis and ping pong, where he won several tournaments.

Cecil attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where he made a tremendous impact. His life accomplishments include the following:

He was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he served in several positions over the years and received many accolades and awards.

Cecil, a dedicated man of the community, left an influential mark on everything that he touched. He was very active in the community and a role model to many. He lived to work and inspired others.

Cecil Jones’ Christian walk was evident in his daily life. He was an active member of Second Baptist Church which he loved and was a faithful servant and great leader. It is evident that Cecil gave his life and support to his community, family, church and God. He was loyal to his wife for what would have been 23 years as of yesterday, September 11, 2022. His outlook on life was most uplifting as he spoke so positively with genuine expressions inspiring all.

Others left to cherish his memory are his mother-in-law, Nellie Harris of Wilkesboro, NC, brother-in-law, Richard Harris, III of Wilkesboro, NC, sister-in-law, Valrapunzel Harris of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He will be missed by many.
