Celestine Yvonne Adams was born December 16, 1923 in Casscoe, Arkansas to Alfred and Rosie Hancock. She has been a resident of Columbus, Ohio for over 70 years. As a youth, she loved riding her horse Buck. Celestine was an avid basketball player, leading her team to become State Champions at Emmanuel High School. She attended the Ohio State University and Southern College earning a Certificate of Business Administration. Celestine loved serving the Lord. She was a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church before joining the Church of Christ of the Apostolic. In addition to teaching Sunday School and singing in the choir, she served as the secretary for the Southern Ohio District Missionary Auxiliary. Celestine ministered and prayed for the sick at nursing homes, and witness to the lost to bring them into the kingdom of God. She was recognized and honored by the Southern Ohio District Missionary Auxiliary as a Missionary Jewel. Celestine worked for several years as a Shoe Inspector Supervisor and RG Barry Corporation. She retired early to focus on her family. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Celestine enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, and gardening. On Monday, April 13, 2020, Celestine transitioned home to her Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred P. Hancock and Rosie E. Betts Hancock, husband John J. Adams, 6 sisters, and 4 brothers. Celestine leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Stephanie A. (Ronald) Scruggs and Carolyn D. Wicks; sons, John C. Adams and Kenneth W. (Adrienne) Adams; grandchildren, Kevin E. Tyler, Gabrielle C. Moore, Brooke A. Adams, Kenneth A. Adams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
