Charlene Irene Burley

March 15, 1938 — December 20, 2020

Charlene Irene Burley was born to the late Clinton Ellsworth "Pat" Chapman and Margaret Irene Craig Chapman on March 15, 1938 in Nelsonville, Ohio. She was a graduate of Nelsonville High School, and upon graduation she married and relocated to Columbus, Ohio. Four children were born from this union; Doreen Lynn Burley, Karolyn "Michelle" Burley, Penny Yvette Burley, and Kenneth "Glen" Burley. Early in her career, Charlene accepted a position with the City of Columbus as clerical support to the Communications Department where she excelled in her field. She was also known as an expert in the area of finance. Charlene retired in 1990 leaving her mark as an outstanding employee, so much so that it took three people to replace her upon her departure. She also worked as a tax preparer during tax season, which further displayed her financial expertise. Once Charlene retired, she became an avid traveler, and she traveled the world with her brother Robert "Bob" Chapman. They visited a total of forty-two countries in their travels, with Jerusalem being Charlene's favorite destination visited. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and watching her favorite television shows. Her spiritual faith and her family were the most important aspects of Charlene's life. She had tremendous love for God and her family, and she was an extremely caring, kind, generous, loving, and compassionate person. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to assist those in need. This desire to help extended outside of her family as well. In addition to her parents, Charlene is preceded in death by daughter Penny Yvette Burley and sister Margaret "Ann" Peppers. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Doreen Lynn Burley and Karolyn "Michelle" Parks; son Kenneth "Glen" (Simone) Burley; brothers Robert "Bob" Chapman and Phillip "Phil" Chapman; all of Columbus, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
