Charlene J. Nesbitt-Garnes was born on December 24, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was reared during the early years of her life. She later moved with her parents to Columbus, Ohio and was educated in the Columbus Public School system, graduating from East High School. She was a healthcare provider and care giver for many years to her foster son Perci Gray, who she reared and lovingly cared for until her health started to decline. Charlene was a loving and devoted mother to her beloved son Thomas Savage. She loved spending time with him and her daughter-in-love Dwan. Her grandson Cameron was the apple of her eye and she loved to spoil him, as grandmothers do. Hanging out and spending time with family and friends was one of her greatest joys. Charlene loved plants and flowers. She took pride in making them grow. Her home was her greenhouse of pride. Charlene was a whiz in the kitchen. Her prize winning chocolate chip cake was delicious. On September 30, 2020, Charlene passed away. She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Jewel Nesbitt, brother John Wesley Nesbitt, maternal grandparents John and Ollie Mae Gwinn, paternal grandparents Charlie and Charlie Jackson Nesbitt, and niece Delores Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted son and daughter-in-love, Thomas (Dwan) Savage; grandson, Cameron Savage; nephew, Jon Nesbitt; niece, Yolanda Williams-Smalley; foster son, Percie Gray; first cousins, Bobby Nesbitt, Dr. Sokoto Fulani and Nancy (Mike) Winfield; and a host of cousins and dear friends.
