Charlene Kay Durr, 58, of Columbus, Ohio passed peacefully in her sleep at her home the morning of Tuesday, February 19, 2019. While her passing was unexpected, Charlene had been courageously facing the challenges of cancer, and she had successfully completed her last chemotherapy treatment the previous day. Her faith was strong throughout her battle with cancer, and her outlook mirrored her sunny disposition. Charlene is survived by the greatest source of her pride, her loving children, Marcus (Ciara) Durr and Lyndsay Durr. She is also survived by her siblings, Darlene Ballard, Deborah (Layne) Sutton, David (Janet) Durr, and Tracy Durr, as well as nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Sharard) Vaughn, Christina (Steven) Stropes, Richard Durr, Jr., David (Amanda) Janning, Jonnelle Ballard (Jimmy), Brittany Durr, Anthony (Tiffany) Durr, Abigail Sutton, Jasper Woods, Bobby Woods, and Kimberly Moorehead, and the little angels that lit up her life, Sydney, Danielle and Heiress and a host of great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Geneva Durr, and siblings, Charlie Durr, Jr., and Walterean Nickerson and Richard Durr and nephew, Melvin Durr. Charlene was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on January 27, 1961, and her love of people, sense of humor, and willingness to embrace life to its fullest were evident her entire life. Even as a child, she possessed a truly remarkable talent for being able to communicate in written word, as evidenced in her winning submission of a slogan regarding safety at the General Electric Factory in the early 1970’s. Having a wide circle of friends and teachers who recognized her writing and oratorical abilities, Charlene served as the class speaker when she graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1979. Her ability to compose beautiful poetry reflected on paper the authentic goodness, generosity and acceptance that she had in her heart for family and friends. She even held the distinction of the nickname “Blue Mountain” because of her eloquence of expression in her writing, which was on par with that of any store-bought greeting card. Charlene’s openness and curiosity put others at ease and allowed her to always walk away with new friends after just meeting them. She shined much light and shared a great deal of happiness with her friends at American Health Packaging where she worked for 21 years. She held various positions throughout her time there, but the constant was her ability to bring joy and laughter to anyone who was in her presence. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and medical professionals for the care and comfort of Charlene during her arduous battle against cancer. We are grateful for your service and devotion to her.
