Charles Duwayne 'Buddy' Wood

August 6, 1940 — April 9, 2013

Charles Duwayne Wood was born August 6, 1940 to Charles Edison Wood and Florida Hester Wood in Columbus, Ohio. He was more affectionately known as “Buddy” by most, if not all, of his loved ones, neighbors, and friends. Buddy was a 1960 graduate of Dublin High School, where he was an award winning athlete who participated on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. He went on to pursue his college studies at Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, and while there, Buddy became a member of the marching band. He was a gifted and talented saxophone player whose love of music yielded many memorable experiences, including the opportunity to attend and perform at the Presidential Inauguration of John F. Kennedy. Buddy was the lead singer and saxophonist for the infamous Hall of Fame band, The Nutrons, and he performed with many notable performing artists such as Dionne Warwick and Bobby Blue Bland. In addition to traveling across the United States as a musician, Buddy worked as a cement mason and concrete finisher. He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the City of Delaware, where he was employed as a Highway Inspector. Buddy loved gatherings and family reunions at the old homestead in Lucy Depp. But, most of all, he enjoyed talking about Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church and an avid reader of the Holy Bible, reading it through many times. On Tuesday, April 9, 2013, after an extended period of illness, an angel was dispatched to the old homestead and peacefully escorted Charles Buddy Wood to his new Heavenly Home. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Malaki Mister Wood, parents, Charles and Florida Wood, and sister, Chloe Mitchell. Those who remain to cherish memories of Buddy include his loving wife of 47 years, Claudia J. (Nappier) Wood; daughters Kristina (Brandon) Peak and Joy Wood; four grandchildren, Brandon, Asia, Micah, and Nicholas Peak; sister, Gwinevere (Manning) Baumgardner; nieces, Faun, Tonda, Cynthia (William), and Nicole (Harry); nephews, Chad, Manning Jr., Gary, and Charles (Terri); a host of great nieces, great nephews, many other relatives, loved ones, and friends.
