Charles Michael Harris of Columbus, Ohio passed away on August 5, 2024, at the age of 71. He was born on January 3, 1953, in Anderson, Indiana. Michael excelled in football at a young age playing for West High School and received many accolades including All City “1969 through 1970”, and All State 1970. He received a football scholarship to Illinois State University majoring in accounting. Upon receiving his degree, he became a Certified Public Accountant, and a successful entrepreneur. Michael’s first business, Ebony Fuel, was the first black-owned and operated coal business in Ohio. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to continue his father’s legacy as President of his accounting firm, Charles E. Harris & Associates.
Michael was known for his passion of golfing and organizing the Friday golf outings with his friends. His love for golf and travel built a lifetime of connections and friendships. He was dedicated to his family, career, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him. Anyone who encountered Michael, agrees he was a warm-hearted man who has never made one enemy in his 71 years of living.
Michael Harris’ passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who loved, and respected him. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Carmen Harris, children Micah and Preston (Payton) Harris, grandchildren Kyrah and Skylar Harris, brother Jeff (Eunice) Harris, and Phillip (Jenny) Chapman. Stepchildren Brittney, Kevin Jr., Lesile Pollard, nine step-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild. Brother-in-laws Larry and Robert Hardy, sister-in-law Tracy Granger, as well as a host of family and friends. Michael will be reunited with parents Charles E. Harris, Shirley Chapman, brothers Timothy Harris, Keith Chapman, Kenneth Chapman and stepson Brandon Pollard.
