Charles William Martin was born on April 6, 1969 to Robert and Josephine Martin in Brooklyn, New York. In the mid-seventies, the Martins moved to the Southfield area of Columbus, Ohio to continue raising their family. This is where Charles forged several lifelong friendships and resided for the remainder of his life. Charles’ love for sports and leisure activities led him to spend much of his childhood at the local recreation center, as well as the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. The close and loving relationships he had with each of his siblings also consumed a lot of his time and they continued to maintain special bonds throughout his life. Many memorable moments were also shared with friends and family during his journey through high school. Charles attended Marion-Franklin High School, where he was a member of the basketball team and graduated with the Class of 1987. Charles “Mook” Martin was definitely one of a kind and those who knew him would describe him as “a real character.” With his playfulness and outgoing personality, there was never a dull moment around him. He had a big heart and was the type of man to give you his last (or at least half of it). No one is perfect, but Charles got along with everybody he came across, in one way or another. He did the best he could to be a loving father, caring family member, and reliable friend. He balanced these things along with everyday issues of life for 45 years strong until his Savior called him home. On February 8, 2015, the Lord opened His arms and heart to Charles and said, “My son, you no longer have to worry. Come to me and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest in your soul. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Broadnax and Robert Martin, Sr., brother, Don Anderson, grandmother, Thelma Anderson, brother-in-law, Roland Kinzer, Sr., and best friend, Duane Hayes. Cherishing memories of Charles and celebrating his life are his children, Tiana, Jeremy, LaQuia, and their mother, Lisa; Markese, Shakil, Sharese, Makayla, and their mother, Rebecca; grandson, Markese “Bam” Jr.; brothers, Bryant (Krissy) and Jesse; sister, Sabrina (Roland Sr.); nieces, Ronita “Pooh”, Rolana, Teja, and Taleah; nephew, Roland “Inch” Jr.; and a host of other nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
