Charles William “Pete” Clayton, 72, departed this life on Thursday, September 9, 2010 with many of his loved ones by his side. Born in Columbus on September 15, 1937, Pete was a 1956 graduate of South High School and a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired from Western Electric/ATT/Lucent with 32 years of service. Preceded in death by parents James and Eloise Clayton, and two brothers Kenneth and Ronald. Survived by loving wife Geneva M. Clayton; three daughters, Catherine (Steeve) Spearmon, Carla (Wiley III) Bates, and Cynthia Clayton; nine grandchildren, two loving sisters Norma Ferguson and Charlotte Lawson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and lifelong friends. Celebration of Life 3 p.m., Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until start of service. Pastor John S. Little, officiating.
