Chester Oliver Mayo

Mr. Chester Oliver Mayo was born October 6, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio. He served in the US Army, in the Korean conflict. He retired after 30 years from the United States Postal Service as a mechanic, and after 10 years from APDS as maintenance engineer. Affectionately known as “Chet”, he will be remembered for his sense of humor; for he was always making friends and family laugh. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed traveling to the different casinos; and was a lucky winner at many of them. He was an avid bowler and bowled in many leagues including the Zip Coders, TNBA, Nellie Regan and Second Time Around. On Monday, June 25, 2012, Chester Oliver Mayo was called Home to rest. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally Shackleford, and father William Mayo; his wife of 53 years, Erma Mayo; son Michael Mayo; father and mother-in-law, Henry and Emma Jemison; and brothers-in-law, Harlin Goins, and James Hay. He is survived by his loving daughter, Judith Taite; granddaughter, Kemba Days-Yancey; grandson, Korey Days; great-grandsons, Kameron and Kyle Yancey, all of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Patty Mayo, of Riverside, California and Margaret Hay, of Columbus, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mary Delores Goins and Thelma Givens, of Columbus, Ohio and Dr. Barbara (Dr. Richard Moriba) Kelsey, of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Sylvia Givens-Moore, of Columbus, Ohio; Riba (Raynal Shaka) Harris and Rimani Kelsey, of Atlanta, Georgia; Glenda (Dwight) Graham, of Los Angeles, California; nephews Jeffery Goins, of Columbus, Ohio; and Richard Mondibo (Dwan) Kelsey, of Raleigh, North Carolina; numerous great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends, including special friends Helen Kirkland, Willie Bias, and Nadie Steward.
