Christine Yvonne Garland Hill was born in Georgia, March 26, 1935. Her parents, the Rev. Roy and Olena Garland moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1941. They joined Pilgrim Baptist Church and became faithful members. Olena was a part of the Kitchen Ministry. Christine was working with her mother when fire broke out in the kitchen. Christine was burned along with several others. She remained a life long member of Pilgrim.
Christine was known as "Naynee" for the mothering she has given so many. Christine spent a large portion of her life caring for others: father, Roy; husband, Tom; Aunt, Henrietta; mother, Olena and brother, James. She has numerous GOD children, starting with special nephew, Victor, also, Brenda Coggins, Tyson Tucker, the Miller twins and Chaplain Lurenna Hutchings.
Christine graduated from East High School in June, 1953. She furthered her education with a Manager of Cosmetology license from Poro School of Cosmetology. She worked 4 years as a hair stylist at Exie's Beauty Salon. She worked 10 years as a cottage leader at Ohio State Girl's Industrial School. After 15 years, she retired from Chemical Abstracts as an editor of Authors Names.
In 1980, Christine married James T. Hill and added his family to her family.
On Monday, February 10, 2025, at the age of 89, Christine was called from labor to reward. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Hill; brother, Roy, Jr. and numerous uncles and aunts.
She leaves to celebrate her legacy and cherish her memory; brother, James Garland; nephew, Victor Garland; adopted sister, Ora Smith; James T. Hill, Jr. and Zina Ford; nieces and nephews; Melanie Stokes, Sylvester Cowan, Ralph Miller, Ricky Fulton, Vincent Thompson and many great nieces and nephews. Christine will truly be missed by a host of cousins and friends across the county.
