Clarine (Ely) Porter departed this life Saturday, July 10, 2010 at the Isabelle Ridgway Care Center after battling a long illness. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 20, 1927, as the eighth of nine children to her late parents, Oscar and Estella Ely. She was lovingly known as Mimi to her siblings and close relatives. She bore three children during her first marriage, and then married the late Clyde W. Porter in 1961, assisting him in successfully raising a blended family with a total of seven children. As a young adult, she was active in her church, teaching Sunday school and assisting with her late husband's ministry efforts. She was a talented seamstress, baker, creative decorator and a gifted artist, who enjoyed painting as a hobby. Predeceased also by her siblings: Dorothy, Ruth, Oscar, Jr., Elizabeth, Fred, Charles, Anna and Lucille; and one loving daughter, Angelica Porter. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: James (Portia) Porter; Gordon Porter; Josetta (Segran) Nair; Brenda Porter; Joseph R. Jones, Jr., and Estella (Keith) Jones/Forney. Other surviving relatives include: Eula Mae Jones, William Nixon, Sr., Herman Eskridge, and many loving nieces, nephews, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral service 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2010 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long St. The family will receive friends at the mortuary Wednesday, 1:00 PM until the start of services. Interment in Glen Rest Memorial Estates. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Isabelle Ridgway Care Center, 1520 Hawthorne Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43203.
