Consuelo Maria Louisa Rosario-Shaw, more affectionately known as “Gigi”, was born June 1, 1964 in Oakland, California. During her childhood, she moved to Columbus, Ohio where she attended Bishop Hartley High School. As a high school student, Gigi was a member of the cheerleading squad and a shot putter on the track and field team. She briefly took piano lessons. After graduation, she spent time in Hawaii and Los Angeles, California working as a hair designer and makeup artist. When her mother, Mary, became ill, Gigi rushed home to Columbus to care for her. She worked for many years at J. Michael’s Hair Salon and Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Reynoldsburg. Gigi began studying ballet at a very early age and always identified herself, first and foremost, as a dancer. When she was dancing, she was happy and carefree. She won many trophies for her ballroom dancing and worked, for several years, at Fit Life Dance Studio where she was a Zumba and La Blast instructor as well as a personal trainer. She was also a giver. Gigi would take on other people’s problems as her own and coach them through it to a better place in life. She wouldn’t rest until everyone in her life was doing well and being all they could be. She volunteered at Stowe Mission, where she helped with feeding those in need. She also took part in a missionary trip to Uganda along with other members of her church. When Gigi loved someone, stand back! She would pour herself into them with the force of a tsunami! She was incredibly strong emotionally and would tirelessly love people. She would make you feel like she had known you all her life even if she had just met you that day. And after meeting her, you always left feeling better about yourself than before. Others had the opportunity to feel Gigi’s love, passion, and energy for a few hours a week. I had the unique privilege of being her husband and experiencing her daily. I got to see her when she was tired and weak and frustrated and mad as well as smiling and happy and laughing. Gigi was strong and positive as well as weak and fragile, as we all are. With Gigi, there was no putting on a different face when with different people. She was the same at home as she was with a corporate executive or a stranger at the grocery store. Even when she prayed, she would talk to God like she was talking to a friend on the phone, even saying “I love you. Goodbye” at the end instead of “Amen!” Gigi left myself and others with so many life lessons and examples that it will take years to learn them all. Most of all, she taught me to be open, giving, creative, and active. On January 25, 2016, at the age of 51, Gigi peacefully departed from her earthly life. Her mother, Mary L. Fitzgerald, preceded her in death. She leaves to celebrate her life, her husband, David A. Shaw; biological father Bernard Rosario of Long Beach, California; stepfather Richard Fitzgerald; sisters, Brenda Williams of Santa Clarita, California, and Michelle Rosario of Las Vegas, Nevada; Mother Henrietta Davis and the Davis family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends.
