Cora L Green

April 23, 1952 — June 2, 2021

Cora Lavern Green was born on April 23, 1952 to Lynn (father) and Constance (mother) Green. On June 2, 2021 Cora, silently and peacefully departed this earthly life to her heavenly home. At the age of seven after the death of her mother, Cora was placed in the care of her loving family. That family included Great Grandmother, Anna, Grandmother Margaret, and Aunt Martha. Cora said, "I think the Lord KNEW it would take at least 3 very strong and courageous women to raise an active seven years old little girl." Cora grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Her family had a strong FAITH base and enjoyed family fellowship with friends celebrating cookouts, holidays, and birthdays. Cora often said, "Some good old fashion gospel sing-alongs many Saturday nights, made good use of the piano and organ in our home." Cora always remembered her Spiritual Foundation, The Church. "It was the grace of God that brought me through." She was a strong member of her family Church, The Union Grove Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Her Pastor was the Late Rev. Dr. Phale D. Hale. The current Pastor is the Rev. Dr. Henry L. Johnson III. Cora attended summer Vacation Bible School in almost all of the neighboring Baptist, Presbyterian, and AME Churches. Cora was baptized and accepted leadership roles at Union Grove, also in The Eastern Union Missionary Baptist Association, in The Ohio Baptist General Convention, and as President of the Youth Auxiliary and Chairperson of The Hattie Jackson Guild Girls. Cora's current membership was with the Epworth United Methodist Church, in Columbus, Ohio with Pastor Jennifer Casto. She Truly enjoyed and loved her Church, Pastor, and fellow members. Cora graduated from Linden McKinley High School in 1970. In 1974 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bluffton College and in 1978 her Master's Degree from Salem State College in Massachusetts. Cora loved the missionary work and fellowship with people during the time she was married to the Rev. David Jones. No matter where Cora was in her travels, she gained divine friendships and left true legacies. Cora enjoyed the world of education, teaching, and reaching students across various states. Later she entered the world of Guidance Counseling. She was a powerful motivator to the students, their families, and her peers in many school districts. In May of 2015 she retired from the Westerville City School District. Cora received many certificates and awards of recognitions and outstanding service throughout her life from various school districts, communities and Religious organizations. Cora enjoyed the world of fine arts, music, concerts, art shows, and fairs. She traveled across the world finding sunshine, cardinals, lakes, beaches and lighthouses. She enjoyed American and World History. During her sickness, she remained current in world events and world views. If Cora could be there she was there! She listened to former United States President Barak Obama's speeches, she attended American Activist Civil Rights leader Rosa Parks' funeral, and she shook the hand of World Tennis Player Arthur Ashe. She encountered many spontaneous adventures which also included graduations, baby showers, and birthday parties of her loved ones. Cora valued diversity and reflected it in many ways. She had diversity in her music collection, her community activities, her friend groups, and more... Cora touched the hearts of many including the staff of The Heartland of Dublin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dublin, Ohio. This included the administrative team, nurses, nursing assistants, activities staff, therapists, and physicians. This is where her earthly journey ended on June 2, 2021 and her Heavenly transition began. For this we say, "Thank You." Cora is preceded in death by her Great Grandmother Anna, her Grandmother Margaret Sinkford, her Aunt Martha Bridges, her Uncle Benny Green, Father Lynn Green, and Mother Constance Green. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, family members, acquaintances, friends, students across the world, and her Church families. She also leaves, Tammy Freeman, Brenda Jackson, Nicolette Cole-Santa, Tami Cole-Santa. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Cora’s name to Epworth United Methodist Church.
