Craig Aaron Ward was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 2, 1947. He went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 27, 2010 while at the Zusman Hospice Center. As a young child, Craig being the son of a military father, was able to travel to many places including Guam and Hawaii. His childhood was spent in Birmingham, Alabama with his paternal grandmother Martha, his aunt Earnestine, his cousins, Herman, Brenda, and Faye, along with his siblings Crandell, Freddie and Michele and in Denver Colorado where his parents settled in 1953. Craig first came to Columbus, Ohio in the spring of 1967 when he was twenty years old. He settled in Columbus until his death. Craig was classy with a generous spirit and a good heart and all those who knew him knew that he was one dynamic dresser. Everything matched from head to toe. Craig was not an easy person to get to know, but he loved his family and even though he did not always show it, we believe his love for us was indeed real. In honor of Debbie, Craig’s fiancé, we know that he loved you in his own way, and through all the trials and tribulations that you went through in the many years you were together, we want to say thank you for loving our brother to the end of his life on this earth. One of the most important events in Craig’s life was on Tuesday August 10th , 2010 when he professed the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. In knowing this, we can rest with peace knowing that he is now with our Father in Heaven; along with all those whom he loved so dearly that have gone before him. “Thank you Lord” Craig was preceded in death by his father, Arthur L. Ward, brother; Crandell F. Ward paternal grandmother, Martha Winston Ward-Sams, paternal grandfather, Aaron Ward, maternal grandmother, Georgie Thomas, and maternal grandfather, Frank Thomas. He is survived by his mother, Ira LeVernThomas, fiancé, Debbie Lawrence; son, Craig Lee (Kinesha) Ward; brothers, Freddie (Bernice) Steward, Eric Thomas and Aaron Thomas; sister, Michele (Robert) Williams; best friend, Reece Smith; grandchildren, Greg Ward, Taylor Ward, Jalen Ward, Jordan Ward, Craig Ward, Cayden Ward and Candice Ward; special cousins, Brenda (Henry) Lewis, Herman Presley, and Faye Presley; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and special friends. We will grieve for you my brother, and in time we will move forward, remembering you with loving thoughts and knowing that someday we will see you again. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to The James Cancer Hospital, 300 W. 10th Avenue, Columbus, OH 43210.
