Creola M. Huston, born November 5, 1933, to the late Cora Witt Turpin and Richard Chambers in Williamson, West Virginia was called to be with her maker during the early morning hours of May 7, 2020, while being cared for at Highbanks Rehabilitation Care Center in West Worthington, Ohio. Creola graduated from Liberty High School in Williamson West Virginia and moved to Chicago, Illinois then relocated to Queens, New York where she obtained several facets of employment to include "daywork" cleaning, ironing, cooking, pressing and curling hair, to hosting card parties as a way to supplement her income. Creola was a Cub Scouts Den Mother for Troop #293 and also worked as a Teacher's aide in Long Island City Public Schools. Creola was determined to make a better life for herself and her children and when given the opportunity, Creola enrolled in and earned a nursing degree from Brooklyn Adult Nursing School in 1967. Creola relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1968 after which she secured a nursing position and a 25+ year career at The Ohio State University Hospital in Orthopedics. After her retirement, Creola spent much of her time attending to the needs of others. She believed and lived by "Family First" the belt, "You Need to Get Your Rest" and "You Need to Drink More Water". Creola was passionate about being in the kitchen cooking, baking and trying new recipes to serve to whomever came to her house. She also loved going to the store "daily" if she could, eating out at Bob Evans, Golden Corral and The Olive Garden. Creola loved to dance and listened to a variety of music from "Amazing Grace" to "Shake it Fast". She enjoyed going on road trips to visit family and friends and she loved "Las Vegas". When vendors would approach, Creola would not hesitate to let them know "That's a big gyp". In 1992, Creola joined Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Earl L. Strother and remained through the church's transition to Elevation Church under the leadership of Pastor Kirk L. Napper. Creola volunteered to be part of their Missionary Society, Culinary Ministry and Vacation Bible School program for several years. Creola was an active member of The Liberty High School Alumni Association (Columbus Chapter)as the treasurer, then became the President until the Columbus Chapter dissolved in 2015. Creola is preceded in death by her son, Leonard W. Mitchell, lll; brothers, Herman "Brad" Bradshaw and Raymond "Jimmy" Bradshaw. Creola is survived by sister, Evangelist Phyllis L. Fouse; son, Jerome T. Huston (Felicia); daughter, Linda C. Huston (Anthony); grandchildren, Thomas E. Huston (Kita), Daniel L. Willis, ll, Tonika A. Goss (Armond), Jerome T. Huston Jr., Antonia B. Mason, Kevin J. Huston and Charles M. Jackson (Stranje); 10 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends including special friends, Rick Mann & Linda Wilton. The Huston Family wants to express their sincere thanks to all who called, texted, sent cards, flowers, shared memories and opinions about Creola M. Huston. She was loved and will be missed by many.
