Crystal Laverne Walker

April 20, 1950 — July 14, 2021

Life’s Journey Crystal LaVerne (Hubbard) Walker was born on April 20, 1950 to the late Roscoe and Grace Hubbard in Vivian, West Virginia. Crystal grew up with a very close-knit family. She was the 9th of 14 children. She had a connection with her sisters like no other and had a deep love for them. She had multiple best friends as long as she was with them. Crystal was always fun to be around, and a loving sister and daughter. They all cherish the memories and the time spent with their sister. Crystal received her education in both West Virginia & Columbus public schools, graduating from Central High School in 1969. She worked at various jobs & retired from the food service department for Columbus City Schools. A Loving Wife and Mother In Columbus, Ohio Crystal met the love of her life, and on August 12, 1971 she married James(Jimmy) Walker Sr. Together they enjoyed spending quality time taking walks, watching shows, listening to music, taking cruises or traveling, and always being together as a couple. To this union three children were born; James Jr. (Jay), Corrinne, and Jered of whom she would do anything for, and loved very much. Jimmy and Crystal enjoyed building and sharing their lives together, and were just weeks shy of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. In his words, “Crystal was a wonderful, sweet, and caring wife”. Her son Jay says, “ mom was always there, and no matter what my mom always had my back. She was my safe place.” Crystal & her daughter spent plenty of time together. When you saw Crystal, Corrinne wasn’t too far behind. Corrinne says, “mom was my longest relationship & my best friend”. She Loved Jehovah.... In 1970 Crystal dedicated her life in baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses after being introduced to the truth by her older brother William. Over the years she attended Central, Old South East, Eastland, Canal West, &her current congregation of Pickerington. She was passionate and dedicated in her service to Jehovah, and instilled that same passion in her children by studying the bible with them. Always a regular meeting attender and enjoyed having an active share in the ministry. She was kind at heart, encouraging, and always looked for opportunities to care for the friends or those who were ill in the congregation. Although she had a quiet and mild spirit, she always firmly upheld Jehovah’s righteous standards. A Special Grandma Crystal was blessed with three grandchildren; James III(Tre’), Jaylen, and Malia. When the kids were asked what was their favorite thing about their grandma, they quickly answered “EVERYTHING!....especially her cooking”! She individually made them all feel special. She enjoyed being a hands-on grandma. Her house was always open for them as she helped clothe and watch them all since birth. Her daughter-in-law, also ironically named Krystal L. Walker says she didn’t think it was possible for anyone else to love her kids as much as she and Jay, but I know she did! Anyone who knows Crystal knew how happy she was to become a grandma, and she was literally the best grandma ever! A Beautiful Person After retiring, Crystal was a homemaker. She was known for her love of cooking, and everyone knew they could come by the house for a good meal! She was fun, humble, caring, loving, and if there was ever a need she would be the first one to make herself available in any way she could. She enjoyed many things, but some of her favorites were: spending quality time with friends, family and grandkids, studying the bible, watching shows, sewing, playing games on her tablet, cooking, and shopping-especially for her grandbabies. She loved hard, and was loved by so many. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Crystal was quiet, but was a pillar that was always there, and when she is not there you will notice and feel it just like today. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, aunt, and loyal friend. She will be truly missed by all. Crystal passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. She was Preceded in death by her son Jered E. Walker; parents Grace and Roscoe Hubbard; Brothers: Randy Worthy,Robert (Popeye) Shelton, Nathaniel (Donnell) Hairston, William, James, Dennis, Frederick Hubbard.
