Damon Antonio 'D.J.' Jenkins

Damon Antonio Jenkins was born June 7, 1974 in Columbus, Ohio, where he spent his formative years and attended Columbus City Schools. During that time, he played basketball as a student at Yorktown Middle School, and also participated on the Southeast Raiders (youth league) and Independence High School football teams. “D.J.” and “3D” were just two of the many nicknames by which his loved ones and friends came to know him over the years. After high school, Damon enrolled in barber college and later married his childhood sweetheart. He established two locally-operated businesses, Totally Different Barber Spa and RM Properties, of which he was the sole proprietor. In his spare time, Damon liked cooking, traveling, and spending time with family. He was an avid automobile enthusiast and the Captain of the Brookside Car Club. All in all, Damon, known also as “Mr. Why Not?”, was a free spirit who enjoyed having a plain ‘ole good time no matter the occasion. On September 30, 2017, Damon departed this life unexpectedly at the age of 43. He was predeceased by his mother Regina Marie Jenkins, grandfather Richard T. Jenkins, Sr., and aunt Sylvia Brown. Those who remain to cherish memories of Damon include his beloved wife, Tomeeka Lynn Jenkins; son Gary Antonio Jenkins; daughters Shawnmeeka Fouche’ Hawkins and Shaniya Lynn Hawkins; grandchildren, TyJaylen Jenkins and Aiden Antonio Jenkins; grandmother Elsa A. Jenkins; aunts, Shirley Murphy, Cindy Black, Rashada Jenkins, Janet Jenkins, Sheila Jenkins, Laurie Phelpopes, and Nicole Jenkins; uncles, Karl (Tawana) Jenkins, Richard (Paula) Jenkins, Jimmy Jenkins, and Bert Brown; mother-in-law Louise Anabell Austin; brother-in-law Alex (Denise) Austin; very dear friends who are more like family, Johnnie, Quan, Dakia, Tonya, Tamika, and Niki; and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends, and longstanding clients.
