Daniel Ballenger

April 2, 1931 — June 24, 2020

On Wednesday, June 24, 2020, we lost the Patriarch of our family to Covid-19 at Mt. Carmel East hospital. Daniel Ballenger Sr. was born on April 2, 1931, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Coleman Bernard and Alice (Mitchell) Ballenger. Daniel was married for 50 years before the death of his lovely wife, Marie (Thomas) Ballenger in 1998. Daniel moved his family to Columbus, Ohio in 1956; where he resided for the last 64 years. Daniel was a loving husband and father and known for his love of singing for the Lord. He took extreme pride in his gift of singing for the Lord. His known favorite song was “How Far Is Heaven”. He received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour at an early age. He was very active at church at Strafford Senior Living until his health made it impossible. He had a vivacious personality and always made people laugh around him. He was a member of the Ohio Gospel Singers later known as the Spiritual Travelers. Daniel traveled from state to state singing and praising God to the world for over 60 years. Wherever he went there was always a song and testimony in his heart for the Lord. He was a very loving father and husband; he always put his family first, he treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. He had a very generous heart and would help anyone who needed a helping hand. Daniel retired as an X-Ray Technician from Park Medical Hospital now known as OSU East in 1987. He loved spending time with his family and he was always the star attraction at family gatherings. He is preceded in death by his, wife Marie Ballenger; son, Shurman Ballenger; brother. James Ballenger and sister, Lizzie Mae McMahan. He leaves to cherish his name sisters, Louise and Betty of South Carolina; son, Daniel (Eucile) Ballenger Jr., of Garner of North Carolina; daughters, Barbara (Calvin) Scales, of Blacklick, Ohio, Mildred Ballenger, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Chenise Crump, Camika Jones and Corey (Lindsay) Ballenger; great-grandchildren, Darius Crump, Taylor Jones, Teya Ballenger, Kendell Crump, Amara Jones, Evan Crump, Courtney Ballenger, and Corey Ballenger (CJ); great-great grandchildren: Kamdyn and Keelyn Crump; and several nieces and nephews.
